Following a national search, Tammy Mentzel, MPH, has been named executive director for center administration and associate director for administration at the University of Cincinnati Cancer Center. Mentzel has held this position in an interim capacity since February 2023.
In this role, Mentzel leads the Cancer Center’s administrative core, the organizational structure by which cancer research is unified across the University of Cincinnati, UC Health and Cincinnati Children’s to foster the collaborative research necessary to make tomorrow’s transformative discoveries possible.
“There is no one more qualified or ready to lead our Cancer Center through the next phase of growth,” said University of Cincinnati Cancer Center co-directors Syed Ahmad, MD, and William Barrett, MD. “Tammy has committed her professional career to the University of Cincinnati. Her extensive knowledge of research administration and NCI guidelines will be critical as we continue our momentum toward submitting our application for NCI designation. We are lucky to have her commitment, passion and leadership in this effort.”
Mantzel is a passionate advocate for cancer research and has more than 28 years of experience in research administration at the University of Cincinnati. Since joining the Cancer Center in 2019, she has played a key role in developing the Cancer Center’s strategic plan, establishing formal research programs and launching transdisciplinary, intra-programmatic and disease-focused working groups that contribute to the Cancer Center’s environment of collaboration.
“I am honored to be selected as the next executive director for center administration and associate director for administration at the University of Cincinnati Cancer Center,” Mentzel said. “I am excited to work with Cancer Center leaders to prioritize a culture that promotes trust and fosters collaboration to allow our faculty to do what they do best – conduct cutting-edge research that leads to novel therapies to improve health outcomes in our community.”
